Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.
About
Kiwanis of Shallotte and South Brunswick Islands is a nonprofit group of volunteers that focuses on community service to children. Our members come from South Brunswick County communities including Shallotte, Bolivia, Ocean Isle, Supply, Sunset Beach, and Calabash. We are present in a number of schools supporting kids’ educational needs through tutoring, afterschool help, and mentoring. Also in schools we offer youth leadership programs. Other Kiwanis Shallotte SBI programs include food drives and school supplies programs.
The 2024 Field of Honor in Mulberry Park, downtown Shallotte, stood from November 9th to November 30th, offering a moving tribute to our nation’s heroes. Hundreds of U.S. flags filled the park, each one symbolizing an individual story of courage and dedication. Organized by the Kiwanis Club, this annual event allowed the community, along with local businesses, to honor Active Military members, Veterans, First Responders, and Hometown Heroes. Flag sponsorships were available in person, online, and through Facebook, making it easy for everyone to participate in this heartfelt display of gratitude. Thank you to all who joined us in celebrating the service and sacrifices of our heroes!
In Memory of Eloise Lillian Townsend
It is with deep sadness that we remember and honor the life of Eloise Lillian Townsend, a cherished member of our community and the Kiwanis Club of Shallotte-South Brunswick Islands. Eloise’s kindness, generosity, and selfless spirit were evident in everything she did, touching the lives of many both in and outside our organization.
Eloise’s dedication to helping others was inspiring. Over the past three years, she played a vital role in our Royal Readers program at Jesse Mae Elementary, where she worked with first graders, creating beautiful quilts for her students and providing them with books to take home. Through her years of volunteer service at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center, she brought comfort and joy to countless patients with her handmade quilts and thoughtful cards. Her compassionate heart was a true reflection of her desire to serve, and her presence made a lasting impact on all who knew her.
This past year, in memory of her previously deceased husband, Eloise funded three new Kiwanis college scholarships for graduating seniors at West Brunswick High School in his name. Her generosity knew no bounds, and her contributions will have a lasting effect on many lives.
Beyond her volunteer work, Eloise was a dear friend to many, known for her wonderful sense of humor and warm personality. She will be remembered not only for the love she spread but for the light she brought into our lives.
We send our deepest condolences to her family and friends. Eloise will be greatly missed, but her legacy of love and service will live on in our hearts and in the community she cared for so deeply. Rest in peace, Eloise. You are reunited with your beloved husband, and your memory will always remain with us.
